Habitat: Mimosa Hostilis is a bushy tree native to extensive areas of South America. While the species thrives in regions as distant as Mexico, it is predominantly found in tropical lowlands, typically up to 1000 meters above sea level. The tree is abundant in Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia. With the potential to grow up to 8 meters tall, it bears striking white flowers and green pods containing seeds.

Scientific Information: Jurema first captured the interest of scientists just over 150 years ago, but it remained largely unstudied until the 1980s. Nowadays, significant knowledge has been accumulated about this tree. Mimosa Hostilis is currently the focus of medical, pharmacological, preclinical, and clinical investigations worldwide. Particularly notable is its potential in skincare and tissue regeneration. According to Laura Elizabeth Valencia-Gómez (2016), Mimosa hostilis exhibits potent antifungal and antibacterial properties, making it a promising candidate for promoting the regeneration of human skin cells. Researchers are exploring the feasibility of processing Mimosa Hostilis into films for topical application to accelerate skin regeneration post-injury, such as wounds or burns.
